Save Yourselves! (2020) is a science-fiction comedy film that had a familiar story yet charming due to its simplicity and fine acting by the lead couple. It is available on Kanopy.
Su & Jack are a couple who are addicted to their phones. One day midway through lovemaking they stop and turn their attention to their phones. Realizing their hopelessness they decide to go for a disconnected week to the woods. Everything starts well in their friend’s lovely cabin when they start noticing something amiss. They are now left to their own means when the whole planet is under attack. Reading this description, I was expecting a film like Bokeh (2017) or typical zombie-like film, but Save Yourselves had a different angle.
Credits should go to Sunita Mani and John Paul Reynolds who have brought to life the couple onscreen. The movie was entirely about them, with only one or two fleeting moments of any other characters. The dialogues of their constant arguments, yet showing an unwavering love for each other were perfect. Check out this film if you get a chance but keep your expectations to the ground, this was a low-budget film!
